Electricity to be Made Available for every Village by 2018, says Arun Jaitley

Arun Jaitley in his budget speech stated that, by 1st May, 2018, every Indian village will have access to electricity. For financial year 17-18, the government has allocated rupees 4,843 crore under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna to bring electricity to the rural areas.

Apart from that, Arun Jaitley also announced a twenty four percent hike for agricultural, rural and allied sectors which comes to Rs 1,87,223 crore for FY’ 17-18.

He said that, the government will continue working with the farmers as well as with the people in rural areas so as to improve their environment and life. Compared to Rs 15,000 crore allocated previous year, Arun Jaitley has allocated Rs 23,000 crore for FY’ 17-18 to build one crore houses for the homeless and those living in kutcha houses. On top of that, he also stated that the government is planning to make fifty thousand Gram Panchayats and 1 crore households poverty free by 2019. Mr. Jaitley has also dedicated a sum of Rs 27,000 crore to build roads in rural areas for financial year 17-18.

Speaking on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Gramin) and NRDWP (National Rural Drinking Water Programme, he stated that the government proposes to provide drinking water to more than 28,000 fluoride and arsenic affected areas in the next 4 years.

Also speaking on the participation of women in MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) which has increased from 45% to 55%, he said that the budget for MGNREGA has been increased from 36,500 crore to 48,000 crore.
